Xi'an Dongxinjie Mosque is a rather new mosque compared with those old mosques in Xi'an like the Great Mosque and Daxuexixiang Mosque. It was first constructed by Hui people in 1939. And it went through several times of rebuilt and renovations at later times.
Dongxinjie Mosque was used to locate in the west of Jiefang Road, south of Dongxinjie. There is a female mosque next to the Dongxinjie Mosque. Because of the poor conditions of the two mosques and as they could not meet the need for local Muslim to attend religious activities, the government has rebuilt and relocated the two mosques to No.81, Shangde Road.
The new Dongxinjie Mosque has enlarged to the area of 3,700 square meters from the original 1,000 square meters. It has complete functions and facilities with strong characteristics of Islamic style to accommodate 600 people to do prayer at a time. Now, it has been a new important place for local Muslims.
