As one of the famous four mosques of China, Hangzhou’s Phoenix Mosque, which is also known as the Fenghuang Mosque was built in the Tang Dynasty. The mosque was destroyed in the Song dynasty and it wasn’t until 1281 till the mosque was rebuilt on the original site. During the Ming Dynasty the mosque was renovated and expanded. The Phoenix mosque has a surface area of 2,600 meters and within the mosque there still remains cultural remains such as artwork, Arabic inscriptions and stone steles.
