The Chongshan Street Mosque dated back to Qing Dynasty under the reign of Yongzheng. It is the best maintained mosque with the largest scale in Guilin, occupying an area of 2000 square meters.
The architectural feature of the mosque blends both Chinese traditional style and Islamic architectural style. Inside the mosque, it includes a full set of architecture: the prayer hall, lecture hall, Wudu facilities and so on. The prayer hall is very spacious, with 12 red wooden pillars orderly arranged. And the Arabic on the left side of the transept means that Allah is the greatest and most respected, and those on the right side means to open the door of auspiciousness and kindness.
Guilin Chongshan Street Mosque is regarded as an significant historic and cultural site. In 1982, President of Pakistan came to China, specially visited the mosque,and performed Jumah prayer there. A full set of Koran cassette and recorders were also presented to the mosque. The president even planted four Tasong trees in front of the gate by himself, praying for the ever-lasting friendship of Muslims and people of the whole nation between China and Pakistan.
