Below are some of the most wonderful and magnificent attractions that you simply cannot miss if you plan on travelling to the magical Garze Tibetan Autonomous Region.
Kangding
Kangding is the capital of the Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and is also known as the gateway to Tibet. The town is situated at an elevation of 2,560 meters and has the world’s third highest airport. Famous for its Buddhist monasteries and amazing natural scenery, Kangding’s well known attractions include Mugecuo Lake, Paoma Mountain, Xinduqiao and Gonga Mountain.
Luding
Luding County is located to the west of Erlang Mountain and is home to the famous Luding Bridge which crosses the Dadu River. The Luding Bridge itself symbolizes Chinese Communist Revolution, this is where the legendary Long March of the Red Army occurred. The famous tourist attractions of Luding include Hailuogou, Yanzigou and Erlang Mountain.
Danba
The city of Danba has been described as one of the most beautiful locations of western Sichuan. In Danba you can enjoy the amazing mountainous scenery and the magical scenery of meadows, forests and pastures. Throughout the different seasons you can see a different side of Danba. The highlight of Danba which cannot be missed is the Danba Valley of Beauties, where some of the most beautiful Danba ladies reside.
Litang
Litang is famously known for its Horse Racing Festival held on the third day of the sixth month of the Tibetan calendar. There are also many spectacular natural scenery sites to visit such as Maoya Grassland where the fields change color due to the different seasons and falls which is absolutely fantastic for photography. You can also get closer to nature at the Gemu Nature Reserve where you can catch a glimpse of snow capped mountains and glaciers.
Baiyu
Baiyu is otherwise known as Kham by the local Tibetan villagers. The most notable attraction of Baiyu is Baiyu Temple which was built in 1857 and remains one of the most influential temples in the Qingchuan counties.
Daocheng
Daocheng County is well known due to the Yading Nature Reserve which is said to be one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the world. The scenery changes throughout the seasons and is particularly worth visiting during autumn when fall is about to take place as the whole nature reserves turns in a red and orange photography heaven. Other attractions of Daocheng is the snow capped mountains of Haizi Mountain which is famed for its glaciers.
Seda
Seda County remains one of the most sacred destinations of Garze and with over 3,000 years of history this ancient county is certainly one of the most intriguing places to visit. One of the best times to visit Seda is during the Jinma Festival where you can experience the worshipping and ceremonies of the local residents. Another notable attraction is the Seda Wuming Buddhist Academy which is the largest Buddhist academy in the world.
