2. How to avoid or alleviate the symptoms of altitude sickness?

When reaching a certain altitude, most people have some degree of altitude sickness to adapt to the pressure difference (about 700 meters or higher). The best way to avoid or alleviate the symptoms of altitude sickness is to keep a good attitude. Many of the symptoms are the reaction caused by the psychological effects, such as the fear on the plateau, lack of mental preparation and determination to overcome the plateau.

It is strongly advised that upon arrival at the plateau region that you don’t run or walk fast. You are also advised not to over eat, drink alcohol or smoke. Eating vegetables and fruit rich in vitamins and minerals will help ease the symptoms of altitude sickness. Also remember to take medication that helps with altitude sickness.

Those who suffer from high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma, diabetes or common cold are all restricted from entering Tibet. It is advised that you before you plan your trip to Tibet that you undergo a cardiopulmonary examination to certify that you do not suffer from any of the diseases or illnesses listed. 5. Why are people suffering from the cold not allowed to visit Tibet? What to do should I suffer from a cold after entering Tibet?

People suffering from a cold already have a low immune system and by putting strain on the already low immune system there is a high chance that the cold will turn into other high altitude illnesses. Pulmonary edema is one of the most dangerous and requires hospital treatment. On the other hand, should you suffer from a cold after reaching Tibet, there is no need to worry as your body will have already acclimatized, though it is advised that you should bring cold medication with you and take the medication as soon as you feel the cold is coming on usually the symptoms will disappear in 2 days.

Yes this is the case but there are both advantages and disadvantages. If you take a flight to Tibet, you are more likely to have altitude sickness because of the sudden change of altitude. However, if you travel by land and the road condition is not good enough it is also dangerous. If you are not a experienced outdoor traveler and have no outdoor travel experience, we recommend that you take a flight to Tibet.
