Zhangye Danxia Geological Park is home to the wonderful Danxia Landforms and is one of the most magnificent sights imaginable. Zhangye Danxia Geological Park is located at the foot of Qilian Mountains of Zhangye city in Gansu Province. The landforms are a beautiful shade of red contrasted with orange and yellow ridges that glisten under the sun. The Danxia Landforms are a result of erosion due to weather conditions such as rain and wind over millions of years. The vibrant formations are a natural wonder for tourists to admire.   Beautiful China Year of Silk Road Zhangye is situated at the center of the Hexi Corridor and was one of the important cities that linked the Silk Road. Formerly known as Ganzhou, Zhangye was once the most prosperous international trading market in China. Situated 600 kilometers from Zhangye is Dunhuang another key trading city along the Silk Road. The location of Dunhuang also made the city one of the military headquarters for the western regions of China due to the Silk Road. As part of the Silk Road route both Zhangye and Dunhuang retain unique cultural and historical importance.   Best Time to Visit The best time to visit Zhangye is from June to September when there is relatively less rainfall and temperatures are warm. The best time to snap some great photographs is during sunrise and sunset as this is when the colors of the Danxia Landforms are most colorful. The average annual temperature of Zhangye is 6 degrees with January being the coldest month and July the warmest. Throughout the year Zhangye is very dry with harsh winds.
