Baba Mosque, first built in the Qing Dynasty, is one of famous mosques in China. Located on the south of Panglong Mountain in Langzhong of Sichuan Province, Baba Mosque was once called Jiuzhao Pavilion. Baba means ancestors in Arabic. Therefore, it is said that the mosque was first built to be the graveyard of a famous Islamic leader. Then his followers expanded the graveyard into the current mosque with several buildings.
Covering an area of 13,000 square meters, Baba Mosque is a quite large mosque with its buildings constructed in a mixed style of traditional Chinese and Islam. The main buildings of the mosque are the gate, screen wall, sermon room, guest room, stele pavilion, and worship hall. The gate of the mosque was constructed by wood and stone, with tablets and carved pattern on the surface. The screen walls after the gate are carved with crafted embossments, making it a really must-see artwork.
The cemetery is the main hall of the mosque, which is also one of the main parts of the mosque. It is composed with arched entrance, the cemetery gate, the archway, and the Jiuzhao Pavilion. The wooden archway standing behind the main hall is also a highlight of the mosque. The inscriptions of two characters on the tablet are remained from Qing Dynasty.
Exquisite inscriptions in Baba Mosque are the cultural relics of the mosque and all of them have great historic and cultural values. For example, one inscription hanging on the gate of the mosque with three characters was made during the Qing Dynasty, having a long history of more than 240 years.
