7. Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park (Gansu)
Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park is themed at colorful rock formations which is a unique geological phenomenon. The Danxia landforms with the unusual colors are formed as a result of millions of years of accumulated and oxidized red sandstone and mineral deposits being laid down over 24 million years. When the resulting layer cakes are formed, it take wind, rain and time as the artistic engraver to carve various formations. Some are smooth, while some are sharp. Precipitous cliffs are found, and deep valleys are often seen. Wired shapes including natural pillars, towers, ravines and waterfalls that are in different color, texture, shape, and pattern are what to explore.
8. Wanfenglin Scenic Area (Guizhou)
Wanfenglin Scenic Area is otherwise known as “Forest of Ten Thousand Peaks”. The scenic area is located in Xingyi city of Guizhou Province. Wangfenglin is divided into two sections, the Eastern Peak Forest is made up of cluster landforms and in contrast the Western Peak Forest consists of highland karst landforms. Wanfenglin sits at an altitude of 2,000 meters and covers a total area of 2,000 square meters. The scenery at Wanfenglin has been described as beautiful as a painting and is like visiting a paradise on earth.
9. Crescent Lake (Gansu)
Dunhuang’s Crescent Lake which is indeed a real life oasis in the middle of the Gobi Desert. The lake is located on the outskirts of Dunhuang, approximately 6 kilometers from the city. The Crescent Lake is a heritage site and is really one of its kind, hard to believe it’s been around for more than 2,000 years. Over recent years there have been growing concerns about the preservation of the lake. The main worries over the lake are due to the shrinking of the lake over the years. However, measures have been taken to preserve the lake and after all it is a listed UNESCO heritage sight therefore the government has created a man-made lake to balance out the Crescent Lake
10. Mount Chengtou (Shandong)
Mount Chengtou is located at the most eastern part of the Shandong peninsula. In ancient times it was believed that Mount Chengtou was where the Sun God resided. One of the highlights of visiting Mount Chengtou is watching the sunrise and seeing the undulating peaks and see the full view of the sea.
11. Hailar (Inner Mongolia)
Hailar is a prefecture level city situated in Hulunbuir and is regarded as the center of Inner Mongolia politics and culture. Hailar is one of the most beautiful cities to visit and is diverse with 26 ethnic minorities residing in the city. Many tourists visit Hailar each year to experience its unique culture and visit the most spectacular nature attractions.
12. Jiuzhaigou – Nuorilang Waterfall (Sichuan)
Nuorilang is part of Jiuzhaigou scenic area and is at an altitude of 2,298 meters. The waterfall is 270 meters wide, 24.5 meters in height and is China’s largest calcified waterfall. Nuorilang was one of the scenic areas included in the 1986 Journey to the West television series and has continued to be used as scenic shots for many other movies and television series. Visiting Jiuzhaigou during the autumn fall is one of the best times to see the waterfall as the beautiful colors of autumn transform the scenery into an amazing spectacular.
