Hong Kong is one of those cities that spoils you with choice when it comes to finding accommodation. The biggest and most luxurious hotel chains, as well as the most hipster hotels and backpacker hideouts all, claim a stake in this heady city of action. If you’re looking to go beyond the standard chain hotel experience and want a stay that’s unique, stylish, and boutique, then check out these hotels for your Hong Kong getaway.
Tuve

Tuve is a boutique hotel where design doesn’t stop at the lobby. Oxidized copper, marble, wood, and concrete are the order in this minimalist hotel that looks like a feature spread in a magazine. It almost feels like a relief from the sensory overload that happens not too far away from its doorstep in Causeway Bay.
The hotel offers a 24-hour front desk service, and you can also borrow a phone with data as you go about exploring the city. Don’t miss a meal at the Silver Room, the hotel’s Japanese-Italian restaurant that serves food that is as gorgeous as its interiors.
Address: No:16 Tsing Fung Street, Tin Hau, Hong Kong
J Plus by Yoo

J Plus by Yoo is known as Hong Kong’s first boutique hotel, and Asia’s first hotel to be designed by Philippe Starck. As you can imagine, design is a primary feature of the hotel and it is a magnet for travelers demanding style and space, a premium in this compact city.
With studios and suites instead of tiny rooms, it feels like you’re returning to a stylish home after a day out instead of a hotel room. Pop art, art installations, and graffiti are everywhere in the hotel, creating a vibrant energy that matches the city. Complimentary breakfast, afternoon cakes, and evening wines are complimentary, should you feel like taking a break from your city explorations.
The hotel also has a gym, which isn’t quite common for many boutique hotels.

Hullett House

If heritage is more your flavor than contemporary swankiness, then Hullett House will be your hideout in Hong Kong. The beautiful property used to be the Marine Police Headquarters and is one of the oldest surviving government buildings in Hong Kong. This all-suite hotel is elegant, tasteful, and each of the 10 massive suites is designed differently, reflecting various aspects of the Chinese heritage, from colonialism to the Cultural Revolution to the imperial dynasties of China.
There are also a number of restaurants in the hotel, and there are even heritage tours of the compound. If money is no object, the Hullett House will make for a very memorable stay.

Lanson
Lanson is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of The World, and it’s easy to see why. Not exactly a tiny hotel either, this 194-room property is tastefully and luxuriously furnished with amenities like meeting rooms and a gym. More sensible than ornate, the design is chic and modern. The building itself is gorgeous, and it feels like a respite from the frenzy of Causeway Bay just five minutes away.
There are one and two-bedroom penthouse suites for those looking for a longer, or simply more luxurious stay.

One96

One96 is one of the newest additions to the boutique hotel scene in Hong Kong and is part of the National Hotels collection of similarly chic properties. One of the standout features of One96 is that it is an all-suite hotel and each one takes up an entire level and has a private lift lobby. Perfect for those who want a completely private hotel experience and cannot risk having their holidays ruined by inconsiderate neighbors.
While each suite gets its own open city view, the penthouse suite offers an unbeatable view of the Victoria Harbour, something which you may assume is reserved for the large hotel chains.
Address: 196 Queen's Road Central, Hong Kong
The Upper House
Studios, suites, and penthouses make for a very spacious (and rare) stay in Hong Kong. The Upper House offers to-die-for views and spa-inspired bathrooms. Nestled right in the heart of the city, the hotel is a true oasis with its rooftop garden which hosts yoga classes and picnic cocktails. The hotel’s Café Gray bar gives you the rooftop bar experience with its incredible views of the city.
